Natural Isolates have been used in the fragrance and flavour industry for many years but the increased demand in recent years for “natural fragrances and flavours” there is an increased desire for understanding on what an isolate is.
Natural isolates are the naturally occurring chemicals, that occur at different percentages in each oil. The composition of these isolates are what makes the oil smell and taste as they do, they also attribute to their aromatherapy properties.
If you look at a typical GC trace, the peaks are the isolates.
So how are they obtained?
Isolates are produced by isolating a single chemical from the oil / plant via a fractionation process.
The use of these isolates not only stabilises the odour profile of the fragrance but also allows some stability on price point.
